I’d like to start this post by saying that I really didn’t expect there to be so many JavaScript related posts on this site, but it’s just the area that I’ve spent more time developing in and finding interesting things to share about lately.

I have lots of web development books covering a wide range of topics from domain design & modelling for your application through to those dealing with the user interface. However yesterday it occurred to me that out of all these books I only really have one which I use on a regular basis, one which I take with me where ever I do any web development.

Earlier today I saw a link to Jakob Nielsen’s latest alert box entitled Search Engines as Leeches on the Web. I had assumed it to be focused on the aggregation techniques that modern search engines, Google in particular, seem to be focusing on. As it turned out the alertbox article was focusing more on the paid ranking techniques and their impact on your bottom line/site development.

A recent addition to my blog rotation, Writers Block Live, is that a ex Apple employee. In a recent it was nice to hear the story of a meeting that took place during the development of iTunes with a record company president, Howie Klein, who actually understood the impact of MP3’s on the way music will be consumed.

I’ve had this link in my drafts for a while now, but it’s still something I want to write a little about. I recently watched the OSCON 2005 Keynote - Identity 2.0 presentation by Dick Hardt — other than having a name that could be any non-descript “actor” in a cheesy 70’s porn film, he does have a good idea and a fantastic presentation style.

I’ve been eyeing up a 15” Powerbook G4 for a while now and yesterday I finally took my first step towards a, hopefully, better future for my computing life by purchasing one.

I’ve been reading the 24 ways to impress your friends web developer tips on the run up to Christmas and the 21st article, Swooshy Curly Quotes Without Images, was quite timely for me as it is an effect I was going to include in my current project.

This really starting to get silly, even though I think the logic behind the recent actions of the music industry is flawed, I do understand where that flawed logic comes from - trying to protect their bottom line from piracy.

It just hit me, why do I have to install programs?
